Homappura
Homappura, is a single storied, double courtyard building used to perform homam (religious offerings to the Gods). The homappura kulam, a tank which had an integral role in the religious activities can be seen located to the north of the structure. Thevarakettu Saraswathi Temple, located to the east of the homappura, enshrines the idol of Goddess Saraswathi, believed to have been handed over to a ruler of Venad (who was then residing at Valliyur) by the great Tamil poet Kambar who lived during 12th century A.D. This idol of the Goddess is ceremoniously taken to Thiruvananthapuram in a procession annually for the Navaratri festival. This tradition continues to date. Considering its religious significance, the entry of visitors to this room is restricted.
